“The story of Morag MacLeod, and how she became known as The Witch of Abriachan, is a queer telling in this day and age. It was never proved, mind you, that she was a witch and this is because the story of the Kelpie and his pearls, the real cause of all the troubles, has never been told. “
The meeting of the feared Kelpie, a Celtic mythological creature, and Morag, an old woman from the Highlands of Scotland, is the beginning of an unusual and mysterious friendship. However, since Morag’s sudden disappearance, many questions have remained unanswered. Torquil, a young boy with a very special gift, is one of Morag’s few friends at the time of these events; together with Alasdair the Trapper, they are the only eyewitnesses to the Kelpie’s part in all of this – not forgetting those pearls!
Superstition and greed play their part in taking the only piece of Morag’s quiet life left to her in her old age; so who does she turn to for help?
A combination of traditional and newly composed Scottish folk music is performed on the viola to illustrate the story.
